Please join us at SLEEP CENTER for ‘On Top of The Other’, an exhibition by Daniel Cerrejón.

Daniel Cerrejón’s idiosyncratic approach to drawing and sculpture explore associations between objects, language, and bodies. Developed from an interest in object-subject relations, his work investigates how bodily movement is shaped, or ‘choreographed’, by various forms of materiality.

In ‘On Top of the Other’, Cerrejón engages the gallery as architectural form; sensitive not only to the site’s former commercial and residential histories, but it’s disparate folds, turns, niches, and spatial logics. A series of drawing and sculpture — developed through processes of folding, rubbing, and measurement of bodies in space — are installed to reflect the ways in which the site produces varying modes of habitation.

Daniel Cerrejón is a Spanish contemporary artist that lives and works in New York City. He holds an MFA from Parsons, The New School for Design (2015) and is a current artist fellow of the Whitney Independent Study Program.

UNBAG is an artist collective that supports discursive approaches to art. It stages regular events in which artists lead discussion concerning ideas, projects, texts, or theory pertinent to their practice.
