Edge of Frame
— an IN THE SHADE BUT NOT THE SHADOW special event
Curated by Edwin Rostron
Thursday, June 7th, 2018, 7-9pm.
Edge of Frame, an evening of contemporary and historical experimental animation. Each film has been selected by London-based artist and curator Edwin Rostron to work in dialogue with Ian Gouldstone’s debut New York solo exhibition IN THE SHADE BUT NOT THE SHADOW.
About:
The processes and technologies that have formed the selected works are intrinsic to the ideas and meanings within them. These artists’ approaches to process are frequently underpinned by personal experience or political ideas, and often driven by a desire to use and abuse technology itself through the making of the film. Their works present new and impossible spaces which nonetheless articulate the experience of our own multifaceted reality in singularly effective ways. At once mental and physical, abstract and recognizable, these are hybrid worlds created through an essentially hybrid medium.
